What’s in a name?

Lynda’s daughter traveled to Costa Rica for a month long school project when she was attending University of Maryland in College Park. Of course, as good parents, Lynda and her family visited her while she was there and Lynda fell in love with the national motto of “Pura Vida”, meaning pure life. Used as a greeting or a farewell, but meanng so much more, embracing a way of life. She didn’t know when or how, but she knew someday, this would turn into a business concept.

Several years later, after being diagnosed with stage 3c cancer she retired after serving 23 years as Camp Director of her summer day camp and realized now was the time for the changes that needed to be made. During treatment, she realized the major thread that wove through her life was yoga and her interest in Ayurveda. She began her teacher training as she continued chemo and radiation treatments. A challenge for sure, but also gave her strength and courage. It also gave her insight that all of the yoga classes she had attended since her early 20’s, did not really consider the individual student’s needs. Most were presented as “fitness classes”, as something you “do”. With deeper knowledge, she realized yoga is really a way of life.

In 2017, she founded Pura Vida Yoga & Integrative Wellness and like most yoga teachers was teaching at a variety of locations around the beltway as well as seasonal offerings at Pine Valley Club.

October 1, 2022, Lynda opened her own studio location, where she continues to teach and now offers a variety of services with more expansion to come in 2024!
